Whitstable Community is a local directory created for CT5 People’s Forum. It helps residents discover community organisations, clubs, societies, venues and annual events, with a central place to find information and explore what’s available locally.
We designed and built an affordable, straightforward website, with practical training and ongoing support to help the team manage it confidently.
The brief
Making local information easier to find
CT5 People’s Forum wanted to give residents a one-stop place to discover local groups, activities and support.
The directory needed to organise a varied range of community information without making it difficult to browse. It also needed to let local organisations submit their details, with the Forum reviewing entries before publication.
Working within a limited budget, the priority was a practical website that served the community and remained manageable for the team behind it.
The approach
Keeping things simple, useful and affordable
We built the website around an established directory system, adapting its appearance and layouts to work consistently with the rest of the site. This kept development costs proportionate while providing the features the project needed.
Visitors can browse by category or use the search function to find relevant listings. We customised the listing layouts, simplified submission forms and refined the mobile presentation to make the directory straightforward to use across different screen sizes.
Local organisations can submit their own information, while an approval process gives the Forum control over what appears on the website.
Alongside the build, we provided explanations, guidance and practical training, helping the team become familiar with managing listings and handling submissions.
The finished website
Built for the community, supported for the future
The finished website gives Whitstable’s community groups and organisations a shared place to be discovered, while helping residents find opportunities, activities and support.
Following its recent launch, local organisations have begun adding their details. The Forum can review submissions before publishing them, helping the directory grow with community involvement.
We continue to provide hosting, maintenance and advice, giving the team someone to turn to as they build their confidence and develop the directory.
